    AB Groupe to launch subscription-VOD


    The French AB Groupe will launch its Non Stop VOD service on November 15, offering over 10,000 hours of programming.

    According to a report in Les Echos, a monthly subscription will cost €6.99 and offer unlimited access to movies, TV series, cartoons, documentaries and sports.

    Licensing deals are in place with Nippon Animation for Manga titles, content from the French audiovisual archive INA and historic sports coverage from ESPN.

    The service will initially launch on Macs PCs, tablets (both Android and iPad) and Samsung connected TVs. At a later stage, the service will be part of the IPTV platforms from Orange, Free, SFR and Bouygues Telecom.

    Subscribers will be able to download content and watch it offline for 48 hours.

    CEO Jean-Michel Fava told the newspaper the service should reach between 60,000 to 75,000 subscribers in the first year to make him happy and he expects to break even within three years with 200,000 subscribers.

    Groupe AB plans to extend Non Stop VOD to Belgium and Switzerland before 2015.

    The Canal+ group has already been active in the S-VOD arena with its Canal Play Infinity service costing €9.99 a month. Launched in October 2011, the Canal service had attracted some 25,000 as per end of March 2012.
