The Ukrainian DTH platform Xtra TV has introduced a new pre-paid card system that does not require a contract or the purchase of additional reception equipment.

Kyiv Post reports that the 3 million FTA DTH households in the country will now as a result be able to supplement their viewing with premium channels not currently offered by free-to-air platforms.

Quoting Xtra TV CEO Jim Phillipoff, it adds that the cards are compatible with most receivers currently on the market in Ukraine.

They will give access to five different genres, with each package consisting of around eight channels and the initial cost being UAH99 (Ä8.83) for 30 days for all the channels.

The channels will be offered in Russian and Ė when available Ė also in English and other languages.

Phillipoff added that the cards would be offered nationally through 31 large distributors and 700 dealer satellite installers.

Xtra TV is backed by the Istil Group and made its debut earlier this autumn.

Initial investment in the platform is likely to reach $50 million (Ä36.3 million).
