3DTV WORLD FORUM LONDON. 3DTV has become established in Europe over the last 12 months. According to Vassilis Seferidis, director, European Business Development, Samsung Europe, there are already over 1,000 hours of programming, over 15 linear channels and over 25 VOD services in the format available on the continent.

He added that the majority of 3D channels around the world are in fact now found in Europe, where 2 million 3DTV sets have been sold in the last 12 months.

Commenting on the Explore 3D on demand service launched by Samsung earlier this month, he said that it was available in 13 European countries, with those in the Benelux region likely to be added to the list once rights issues are resolved.

The 20+ titles at launch will probably exceed 70 by the end of the year. Although all will be offered for free this year, a charge may be introduced at a subsequent time.

Receiving Explore 3D, which offers a variety of content, requires broadband access of at least 4 Mbps.
