The German home shopping channel HSE24 will launch an HD version on the Astra position at 19.2 degrees East on September 1. The broadcasts will be free to air with full 24 hours a day of programming.

“With HSE24 HD another HD channel launches first on satellite. With [the new channel] Astra further strengthens its position as the most attractive HD infrastructure with and the highest reach for the German TV market,” said Wolfgang Elsässer, managing director of Astra Germany, in a statement.

HSE24 CEO Richard Reitzner added: “With teleshopping the product is in the centre of attention. Our customers will now benefit from the high-resolution HD quality which offer razor-sharp images of the products – a real added value for all who like to shop on the TV screen.”

HSE24 HD follows in the footsteps of QVC, who announced the launch of its HD simulcast last April.
