The Vertex 3 family of solid state drives is set to grow very soon as OCZ is going to release units that feature 1.8-inch and 3.5-inch form factors. The first Vertex 3 drives, like most of today's consumer SSDs, come in a 2.5-inch casing.
Both 1.8-inch and 3.5-inch Vertex 3 SSDs are powered by the SandForce SF-2281 controller, have MLC (multi-level cell) NAND Flahs memory, a SATA 6.0 Gbps interface, and are capable of read speeds of up to 550 MB/s.
The 1.8-inch drives, which go up to 320GB in terms of capacity, reach 500 MB/s when writing, while the 3.5-inch models go up to 480GB and write at up to 525 MB/s.
