It seems the leaks were true, Sony Ericsson has indeed been working on new Xperia mini smartphones, two models to be exact, both running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Announced today, SE's latest creation are named Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro and are scheduled for a Q3 release.
The two new minis are powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset and feature quad-band GSM and HSPA support, a rear-facing 5 megapixel camera that can record 720p video (the mini pro also has a front VGA camera), a 3-inch (320 x 480) capacitive touchscreen backed by the Mobile Bravia Engine, 320MB of built-in memory, a microSD slot (2GB card bundled), WiFi (DLNA certification included), Bluetooth, aGPS, an FM radio, an USB port, and a 1200 mAh battery.
The Xperia mini measures 88 x 52 x 16mm, weights 94 grams, and will be available in black, white, dark pink and blue, while the Xperia mini pro is 92 x 53 x 18mm, it weights 136 grams, has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and will debut in black, white, pink and turquoise.
